Acne and Wheat

For the longest time, hormonal fluctuations have been blamed as the source for most if not all acne breakouts.  The connection between diet and acne has long been debunked as a myth, that poor food choices can not be blamed as the cause of acne.  Nutritionists however have been revisiting this myth to see if in fact there can be a connection between dietary choices and acne breakouts.  Recent work has found that there is a connection between acne and wheat.  The acne wheat connection is an implication that wheat products can in fact be the source of acne breakouts, and that simple modifications in dietary choices can reduce an acne problem significantly.

It has been found that products containing wheat such as certain flours, pasta, bread, nutrition bars, or any other food item that contains wheat flour, has an effect on blood sugar levels.  Wheat products will raise the blood sugar levels and create a temporary condition known as hyperglycemia.  The result of this is an increased production of the hormone insulin which has the tendency to cause an inflammation of skin in the pores.  This triggers growth of cells which in turn, creates debris in the pores causing acne breakouts.  The acne wheat connection suggests then that when high levels of wheat or wheat flour are ingested, one would be more prone to acne breakouts.

It is also suggested that genetics plays a role in the acne wheat connection.  Some genetic lines simply appear to be particularly responsive to the chemistry that results in the blood sugar levels when wheat is ingested.  This results in the inflammation on the skin causing acne.  There also seems to be a link between more severe cases of wheat caused acne and dysfunction of the skin’s immune system.  When dysfunction of the skin’s immune system occurs, the likelihood of increased presence of acne breakouts is higher.  Further, the acne wheat connection is also being  linked to other disorders such as Crohn’s Disease, attention deficit disorder, ovarian cysts, and irritable bowel problems.  These diseases are all related to the inflammation that wheat causes, and if these disorders are present in the genetic line, one is not only more likely to struggle with acne wheat problems, but also with any of these medical conditions.

In order to identify if you are struggling with the acne wheat connection, you and your doctor will need to examine your acne history.  Those that are dealing with the acne wheat connection have more than likely tried every acne treatment or product on the market with little to no success.  You may not have even seen any result from prescription medications for your acne treatment.  Most patients coping with the acne wheat connection may even consider their acne untreatable.  Your doctor can help you to determine if you are dealing with the acne wheat connection by testing your blood sugar levels, and by determining if your previous acne treatments have failed.  Eliminating wheat flour from your diet may be the only step you need to eliminating the acne wheat connection all together.

Natural Acne Treatment

If you have a condition of acne that seems to fight every treatment you have tried, you may want to consider natural acne treatment methods.  These natural acne treatment methods work very well on their own, or you may consider using natural acne treatment as an adjunct to other acne treatments that you are using.  These natural acne treatment methods are generally not overnight solutions, but they do help to support your body’s ability to metabolize your foods properly, and ensure overall detoxification of the impurities that are known to cause acne.

Alternative herbs that are used as a natural acne treatment are traditionally used to cleanse the tissues in the body’s systems.  These herbs work to detoxify the body and rid the body of impurities that cause acne from the inside out.  Because a natural acne treatment will work on the internal bodily systems, it will not replace any treatments that you are using as a topical or over-the-counter method.  However, these natural acne treatment methods may just work indirectly on your body in a way that your regular products will not.

Alternative herbs and natural acne treatment methods have a tendency to be quite gentle in how they affect the system.  Because of this, natural acne treatment methods are most efficiently used as a treatment method for the long term.  You will not experience overnight results, but natural acne treatment methods will not only improve your acne in the long term, but improve your overall health as well.  These natural acne treatment methods are very good for chronic inflammation issues that directly involve the skin.

A very common combination of herbs used as a natural acne treatment is the combination of Echinacea, blue flag, yellow dock, and burdock.  This combination is mixed and infused with boiling water for a tea.  Honey can be added for taste, and this tea should be consumed three times daily.  Other herbs that work well towards a natural acne treatment are poke root, cleavers, figwort, and red clover.  Another tea you can make for a natural acne treatment is sarsaparilla, burdock, and dandelion.  These herbs are combined in a very similar manner and infused with boiling water to make a tea.

If you are looking for a natural acne treatment method that is topical, there are many choices you can make in this regard as well.  Tea tree oil is a very common herb used as a natural acne treatment that is topically applied directly to your blemishes.  This is a wonderful natural acne treatment if you have sensitive skin.  Fresh cabbage juice also works very well as a natural acne treatment when it is applied directly to your inflamed areas and is also very effective for those that have sensitive skin.

You can also make a face wash that works as a natural acne treatment as well.  Blend chamomile and calendula with boiling water as a tea.  Before you use it, let it cool, and you want to keep this in the fridge for your daily wash. You can spray this on your face, or dab it onto your blemishes regularly.

All of these ingredients for a natural acne treatment method are readily available at your local health food store.

Acne Keloditis

There are many different kinds of acne, and acne can also occur on just about any part of the body as well.  The condition of acne that occurs on the head or scalp area is known as acne keloiditis.  Acne keloiditis occurs on the occipital section of the scalp, on the back of the neck, and in rare situations over the whole scalp area.  This kind of acne is a condition that commonly occurs in men as the result of using unsterilized hair clippers or products that have gotten too close to the skin.  In the hair styling industry, it is standard that many clippers, blades, and their assorted attachments have previously been used on dozens of clients before being used on any specific individual.  If these appliances have not been sterilized properly, they can cause an inflammation on the scalp and neck area known as acne keloiditis.

Acne keloiditis can be an extremely painful and even disfiguring situation.  Acne keloiditis is considered a chronic case of acne that often results in inflammation and raised scarring.  The scars caused by acne keloiditis are known as keloids, and these scars can itch, swell, bleed, and grow significantly in size in severe cases.  In many cases, acne keloiditis will even cause permanent loss of hair in the affected area.  In acne keloiditis, lesions and keloids will become inflamed and will burst and bleed overnight while sleeping, or shortly following a shower.

Situations that will worsen the effects of acne keloiditis are rubbing, scratching, or picking at the lesions.  Anything that will tamper with the affected area such as a tight hat or direct sunlight will also cause flare-ups of acne keloiditis.  Other factors that will increase the likelihood of acne keloiditis flare-ups include obesity, improper sleep habits, extreme or chronic stress, marijuana use, and a heavy consumption of processed foods in the diet.

Because the lesions are generally severe and painful, standard over-the-counter solutions will likely not be very effective for acne keloiditis.  Medical treatment is generally required and includes a wide range of treatment methods.  Standard treatment for acne keloiditis will include antibiotic medication and Retin-A medicated cream that works as a peeling agent.  Other more serious forms of treatment for acne keloiditis include corticosteroid injections directly into the lesions to shrink the scar tissue that has formed, and surgical procedures that are intended to removed the entire lesion through an incision.  Surgical procedures for acne keloiditis are often a last resort as they do in themselves leave behind noticeable scarring that is very often less aesthetically pleasing than the initial lesion itself.

Home products and frequent hair washing to remove excess oil are recommended as natural treatments for acne keloiditis.  Some cases may benefit from scar removal treatments that will assist in exfoliating the smaller sized lesions and minimize scar tissues.  The earlier acne keloiditis is detected, and the sooner home treatment begins, the easier it will ultimately be to control acne keloiditis.

Acne on Arms

While most of us associate acne with the kind that appears as unsightly pimples on the face, there are many different kinds of acne that can cover almost any part of the body.  These types of acne can range from harmless types such as acne mechanica, to rarer forms that can be debilitating such as acne fulminans.  One kind of acne that is not as common as acne on the face, but still very troublesome, is acne on arms.  Acne on arms is a fairly common form of acne that falls under the category of acne mechanica and it can be caused by a variety of factors.  Wearing constrictive clothing on a regular basis or by rubbing an area excessively will cause acne on arms.  People that are prone to acne on their face or other parts of their body are likely to be affected by acne on arms as well.

The best treatment for acne on arms is prevention.  One of the easiest ways to avoid acne on arms is by immediately taking a shower following any physical activity.  This will ensure that the pores on your arms are cleansed immediately, and any excessive perspiration will be cleansed right away.  This will ensure that your pores have a minimal chance of becoming clogged, and thus reduce your risk of acne on arms.  Another way of preventing acne on arms is to pay attention to the clothes that you wear on a daily basis.  Ensure your clothes are not constrictive and do not create friction or rub against your arms on a frequent basis.  Doing this will decrease the friction against your skin which will in turn decrease the possibility that your pores will clog and cause acne on arms.

Acne on arms can also be seen in some women as high up as the shoulder areas.  The most common cause of this is through the use of bras that are too constrictive.  When the bra straps rub against the shoulders on a regular basis during the day, friction results, and perspiration accumulates causing clogged pores.  If you are a woman that experiences acne on arms at the shoulder level, you should consider having your bra straps readjusted, or buying a different sized bra.

Treatments that are used for acne on arms are generally much different than standard products you would use for facial acne.  The reason is that the skin on the face has a much more delicate consistency than the skin on the remainder of our bodies.  Treatments designed for the face are thus formulated for this delicate skin, and will not be as effective for treating acne on arms.  Products containing ingredients such as benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid will be very effective at treating acne on arms if they are used on a regular basis, even when there are no flare-ups of acne on arms. These will eliminate the waxy buildup caused by friction that is the cause of acne on arms, and will also be a measure towards preventing acne on arms when used regularly.

Buttocks Acne

Having to endure the condition of acne on your face is embarrassing enough, but experiencing it on other areas of your body can be even more embarrassing.  One such place that is a commonly affected area of acne is the buttocks area, and it seems that acne on buttocks is more common among men than women.  The reason for this is that men are more likely to have a greater concentration of hair, and thus perspiration in this area than woman and thus have a greater likelihood of being affected by acne on buttocks.  Unfortunately, acne on the buttocks is also the one place where acne will persist well beyond the teenage and puberty years and into adulthood.

Buttocks Acne can be the result of many factors.  Common factors being touted as the source for acne on buttocks are ingrown hairs or infected follicles of the hair on this area.  The most common source of acne on the buttocks however is a combination of both bacteria and sweat that results in inflammation and the blockage of sebum in the pores.  The end result then is acne on buttocks and they can sometimes be very difficult to treat.

Many times the standard treatments that will work for acne on your face will not be as effective as treating acne on buttocks.  The reason for this is that acne treatments intended for facial use are formulated to cover a smaller surface area and to pinpoint specific spots on the face.  When it comes to buttocks acne, these acne treatments are not designed to cover wider surface areas where the skin is not as receptive.

One way to treat acne on the buttocks is to ensure the affected areas are always dry and clean, yet amply moisturized.  If the skin is washed too excessively, the pores will dry out and make the areas prone to inflammation.  This will eventually lead to further breakouts of acne on buttocks.  Good solutions for this home treatment are a high quality anti-bacterial soap with a moisturizer that contains a slight acidic content.

Some over-the-counter treatments are available that may be specifically targeted towards acne on buttocks or other areas of the body.  When you are looking for a good over-the-counter method to treat your acne on buttocks, you want to ensure the product you select contains anti-bacterial properties and agents that are known to have anti-inflammatory properties.  Because inflammation and bacteria are the known culprits of acne on buttocks, these are the two primary properties you want in your acne on the buttocks treatment.

Your ideal treatment program for acne on buttocks should include your antibacterial cleanser, an anti-inflammatory product like salicylic acid, and a moisturizer that contains some acidic properties that will not clog pores.  All of these products are readily available over-the-counter at your local pharmacy, and, when combined, will ensure your skin is both moist and working to prevent pore blockages.  Your treatment for acne on the buttocks will not happen overnight, but with consistent use, you can clear this problem up in no time.

Leg Acne

The condition of acne is one that is familiar to most teenagers or those going through the adolescent years.  The reason for this is that hormonal fluctuations are a huge cause of acne and pimples.  What many people don’t know however is that acne can occur on numerous areas of the body and is not restricted to the adolescent age group.  Acne is also common on the scalp, back, buttocks, arms, and legs.  Acne on the legs is one of the lesser common forms of acne, but it does occur and is seen primarily in the thigh region, but can occur on other sections of the leg.

Acne on the legs manifests itself as small inflammations that appear reddish and these generally occur on the thighs.  Sometimes it will go away, but then come back.  Leg acne is a form of acne on the body that persists for many people into middle age.  The primary cause is currently unknown, but most studies speculate that it has a genetic or hereditary basis.  The medical term is known as keratosis pilaris, and it has been given this name because it is keratin protein that plugs up and collects in the hair follicles causing the red bumps.

For many people, treatment of leg acne is not even necessary as the acne may go away on its own permanently.  It is not uncommon for acne on the legs to disappear naturally over time and never to appear again.  However for those that deal with acne on legs on a recurrent basis, they may want to obtain treatment for it.  Treatment is very similar to treatment of acne anywhere else on the body.  A common over-the-counter method will be a treatment that includes both lactic and glycolic acid in its ingredient list.  These ingredients will dissolve bumps that exist around the follicle.  To date, outside of laser treatments or cosmetic surgery, there is no known treatment for acne on legs that will provide a solution that is permanent.  As with any other acne case, constant treatment to the affected areas is needed.

Natural remedies have been suggested as both preventive and treatment methods for acne on the legs.  Consistent exfoliation with pumice stones and exfoliating cleansers will work well for preventing acne on legs, and will also remove the buildup around the hair follicles, thus providing a gentle treatment method.  Ensuring the area is consistently moisturized following an exfoliation is also said to go a long way towards preventing acne on legs.  Some studies have suggested that a diet high in Vitamin A may be a preventive measure against acne on legs.  A diet containing a high intake of fatty acids has also been said to work as a preventative means for acne on legs.  If you suffer from leg acne, you can try any of these natural means to both prevent and treat it.  Using these methods in conjunction with over the counter treatments will also be a very effective treatment for your leg acne.

Acne Under the Skin

Acne can be a troublesome problem when you are dealing with whiteheads and blackhead type pimples.  If you are struggling with acne under skin however, the problem is even more difficult to manage and treat.  Acne under the skin is known as cystic acne and is the most severe kind of acne anyone can have.  If you have ever had acne under your skin, then you know how painful and embarrassing it can be.  You may also know that there could be long term ramifications from acne under the skin as it can lead to ugly, permanent scarring.

Acne under the skin is much different than acne that pops up in a traditional breakout, because acne under the skin is the result of an infection that is deep below the skin’s surface.  As a result, nodules or large cysts will appear on your skin’s surface.  It is almost impossible to squeeze these nodules as you would with a standard whitehead.  For one thing, squeezing acne under the skin is extremely painful.  For another, when you try to squeeze acne under the skin you actually make the condition worse by lodging the infection deeper beneath the skin, thus prolonging the life of your acne under the skin.  This will lead to longer periods of breakouts, inflammation that is tender and painful, and eventually severe scarring.

If you have acne under your skin, do not wait for it to go away.  The sooner you treat it the better your chances of preventing scarring.  You can try over-the-counter medications that include ingredients such as benzoyl peroxide and glycolic acid to treat your acne under the skin.  If your case is severe, talk to your doctor to go on a treatment program that will directly attack the infection that is causing the acne under the skin.  Your doctor can prescribe a course of antibiotics that will decrease the bacteria that is causing the acne under skin.  The antibiotic will reduce the bacterium population, and you will see a reduction in inflammation in a few days.

Some women are also prescribed oral contraceptives as a means of treating their acne under the skin.  Skin glands that are in overdrive and produce more fatty deposits than normal are the cause of acne under skin, and are triggered by hormonal fluctuations.  Oral contraceptives will control those hormonal fluctuations and are very effective in many women that struggle with acne under skin.

Another common treatment for acne under the skin is the injection of a corticosteroid directly at the site of inflammation.  This treatment is performed in severe cases.  The steroid will reduce the inflammation of the acne under skin within days.  While the treatments are not comfortable, they do offer the additional benefit of preventing scarring from acne under skin.  The steroid will burst the cyst under the skin and dry it out completely.  This is the most effective treatment for scar prevention.

If you struggle from acne under your skin, the best thing you can do is treat it immediately. Talk to your doctor about your doctor about your specific condition to obtain a treatment plan for your acne under skin.

Acne Urine Therapy

If you are one that deals with acne on a consistent basis, you may be seeking alternative forms of treatment in your desperate search for the right treatment.  You have probably tried every prescription or over-the-counter method, and may have even considered light therapy. Many of these may have worked on the short-term basis, but may not be giving you the lasting results you are looking for.  If this is the case, you may want to consider unconventional treatment methods such as acne urine therapy.  Urine therapy itself holds its origins among the mystics in India and is considered to be an alternative therapy associated with tantric work.  Only recently has acne urine therapy become recognized as an effective solution towards acne treatment.

The theoretical basis behind acne urine therapy is that the urine from the body contains a host of hormones and antibodies that are good for our overall health.  The materials in the urine also include a wealth of minerals and vitamins that our body has gotten rid of because the internal systems do not require them.  Thus, using acne urine therapy is a means of putting to good use the materials that are beneficial, but not currently being used by the body at the internal level.

Acne urine therapy is something that you can do yourself in the privacy of your home without anyone every even knowing that you use this treatment.  The process involves a collection of your urine into a sterilized cup. The best time to collect your urine is with your first morning urine, as the most antibodies and materials will be found in this collection.  You then perform your acne urine treatment by applying the urine directly to your affected blemishes.  You can do this several times throughout the day, and some have been known to leave it on overnight.  To preserve your acne urine treatment, you can put it in a sealed container and keep it in the fridge to use it later in the day.  You don’t want to use one collection for more than a period of one day, and if you continue with your acne urine treatment, you should have a fresh collection every day.

Acne urine therapy is known to have an exceptional healing effect when it is applied directly to your skin.  Acne urine therapy is also a very good toner for your skin.  This acne urine treatment is sterile once it has been collected, and thus it also contains antiseptic properties.  If you have a healthy diet and do not use allopathic medicine or chemical drug therapy, acne urine therapy can be a very beneficial means of cleansing your skin and attacking your acne blemishes.

Acne and Vitamin E

When one is coping and struggling with acne, the first response is to purchase over-the-counter treatments and deal with the problem at the topical level.  Many people do not take into account the benefits of treating the acne from the inside out.  This kind of treatment works at the human systems level by taking care of our body from the inside out.  Vitamin E is one substance that you can use to treat acne both at the topical level and at the internal systems level.  Acne Vitamin E treatment has been studied extensively, and there are many links between acne and Vitamin E that show acne Vitamin E treatment can be extremely effective.

Acne is the result of a number of changes that occur in the body, and is very often attributed to excessive hormonal fluctuations that trigger the production of acne causing bacteria.  One way that acne Vitamin E treatment works is as an antioxidant that eliminates free radicals working in human systems.  Many clinical trials have been conducted that suggest a strong relationship between acne and Vitamin E.

The Journal of Investigative Dermatology has recently reported that Vitamin E works towards the prevention of trapped oils in the pores of the skin.  This prevention of trapped oils thus decreases the chances of struggling with painful acne inflammations.  Acne Vitamin E treatment works to reach the surface of the skin by being secreted from the pores.  Thus, if trapped oils from the skin can be cleared, acne Vitamin E treatment can reach the top layers of the face to prevent acne breakouts.  Acne Vitamin E treatment in this study then was found to act more as a preventive treatment for acne lesions, rather than a treatment plan once breakouts have occurred.

An additional study in Clinical and Experimental Dermatology noted a link between the amount of Vitamin E in the blood and the presence of acne.  Here researchers compared Vitamin E levels in the blood of patients that were struggling with acne but had gone untreated.  They compared Vitamin E levels with a number of participants that were considered healthy and did not have acne.  It was found that the healthy participants had higher levels of Vitamin E in the blood than did the participants struggling with acne.  This led researchers to conclude that lower Vitamin E levels in the blood can cause an outbreak of acne, and that acne Vitamin E treatment would be an effective solution.

Acne Vitamin E treatment can be a very effective solution and can be taken internally to work at the overall system level, or it can be applied directly to the acne lesion.  Acne Vitamin E treatment is also very beneficial in the prevention of scar tissue and to make the healing process more efficient.  While acne Vitamin E treatment may not be the most effective solution for treating current acne lesions, it can be very beneficial as a prevention method and as well as reducing the likelihood of scarring.

Acne and Pregnancy

When we think of acne, we almost always associate it as being one of the standard trials of adolescence.  The reason acne is so common in adolescence is due to the extraordinary changes of hormones that occur during the teenage years.  These hormonal surges are also very common during pregnancy and acne and pregnancy is a very common problem.  Hormonal fluctuations during pregnancy result in a noted increase in sebum production that consequently fills the pores and forms acne.  During the various stages of pregnancy, hormonal fluctuations are extremely high, and as a result, acne and pregnancy quite often go hand in hand.  Acne and pregnancy is most commonly experienced during the first three months of pregnancy as this is when the highest and quickest fluctuations of hormonal surges occur.

Acne and pregnancy is a very difficult condition to treat. The reason for this is that most medications traditionally prescribed for acne would have negative effects on the unborn baby.  One antibiotic known as Erythromycin may be prescribed for acne and pregnancy if the condition is severe.  This is not always the most effective solution however as many bacteria on the skin are resistant to the antibiotic.  Erythromycin may be used as an alternative if other methods have failed, but it is not always the most effective treatment method for acne and pregnancy.  Thus, acne and pregnancy is generally treated with over the counter solutions or through natural remedies.

Natural acne treatments are quite often very effective at treating acne and pregnancy.  Thoroughly washing the face twice daily with clean water and non-irritating cleansers will work.  Tea tree oil is very effective at targeting specific spots and blemishes for acne and pregnancy.  Chemical based cleansers and washes should be avoided, and natural or organic products are best recommended for face washing in the treatment of acne and pregnancy.  Clay masks are also known to be very effective at treating acne and pregnancy, particularly if you are dealing with blocked pores, blackheads, or oily skin.

A sound diet is the best thing you can do when treating acne and pregnancy.  You should be drinking as much water as you can, and this will be beneficial for all of your systems, as well as for treating acne and pregnancy.  Detoxification with plenty of water will help to cleanse your body of the bacteria that causes acne during pregnancy.

Fruits and vegetables are a good staple to have in your diet when treating acne and pregnancy.  These products will cleanse your systems and detoxify the impurities that cause acne and pregnancy.  Stay away from fatty or fast foods as the oily buildup from these foods will make your acne condition worse.  Overall having healthy eating habits will be an excellent long term treatment for your acne and pregnancy.  Further, they will also ensure the baby you are growing is getting all of the vitamins and nutrients he or she needs.
